Utopian Ruins * Lee Bul

Through dystopian aesthetics, explores the collapse of modernist utopias and the fragility of idealized futures. Her works often stage architectural bodies in ruins—fragments of an imagined future where technological ambition implodes under its own excess. Blending sci-fi imagery with references to totalitarian architecture and cyborg mythologies, Lee Bul constructs environments that evoke both fascination and failure. Her fractured futurism doesn't mourn the lost promise of progress, but rather reconfigures it as a terrain of vulnerability, bodily distortion, and poetic resistance. In these collapsed visions, we encounter the sublime residue of a dream no longer viable—but still powerfully resonant.
