The dance can be freeform or can have a predefined choreography. The dance can be performed to serve social, competitive, ceremonial, martial and erotic functions.

SUNFLOWER FIELDS _________________________________SUPERNATURAL SERIES _ BOKROS SLOVAKIA ___________________ MMXIX

Back in the south of Slovakia, next to Komarno and to the Danube River. The art residence in Bokros works elegantly in a rural hotel runned by a family in a production farm. The farm includes modern technology and has some old buildings from the last century that work as simple anthropological museums. The owners and the staff are gentle and kind. The fields around the farm are covered with corn, sunflowers and potatoes. It rains heavyly in the nights. Nightstorms are wild. We share homemade meals everyday in a big livingroom with the invited artists to this 40th year of the art series runned by artist Yuri Dólan. We work in our ateliers, there are several of them spread around the farm. There are pigs and a couple of horses eating grass. In the evening we have some lectures and presentations about our works and enjoy some music with local spirits. Apricot Pálinka is best. Everyone is very calm and we have time to talk without any hurry. I have no cellphone this time with me, so im extra focused in the real time and the context. I walk the area everyday with joy, the new natural canvas. I already recorded Kómarno and the farm some years ago, and feels very intersting to be back for a few days to make the relationship with the place and the artists stronger. I always return to those scenarios that give me joy and focus. I make a film in relation with the local natural elements. Classic mood. I swim in the Danube and cross the fields. The sound of the bending leaves is great. Corn is still green and sunflowers are getting brown. I collect some natural installations and burn some of them by the river as ritual during the day. All in a very small and light scale. Frugal art. I collect some elements and picture them in sets. Artist work some hours on their steady concepts, with great respect and empathy. I have worked now more that ten years in the field od relartional art, LAPIEZA was launched in 2009 so I feel deep respect for those who have the energy and the will to invite and gather artists for so many years in a row. Congratulations.

The triangle is a classic in the floor sets. The stones from the river are smooth and look a bit like candy. Toffee. The equilaterum works in all directions.

The main work for the exhibition is the film in the context. Bokros. The narrative is straight, a direct point of view, a transit towards a house, with the melancholy of the music by el intruso.

The opening day of the residence we are kindly invited by artist Marta Kiss to enjoy the latest collective exhibition of the asociation of hungarian-slovak painters in a magnificent space. The gallery uses an old church in the center of Komarno. The show is dense and there is live music and some drinks.

BY THE RIVER_________________CORRENS_PROVENCE________JUNE 2019

Im back in Provence after some years. I meet the international art family in Correns, a small and wonderfull village. We spend time together, talking on art and politics, having lunch and dinner in the castle. Food is fresh and delicious. Many green salads and soups. Niké has placed us in the homes of her friends. I live with Nadia, and we laugh a lot having long breakfasts in her living room. Artists spend some hours a day painting, some inside and other open air. One painting for the final show is good. I walk around and talk to everyone as art. I record a bit and think on the site specific piece i shall produce during the week. I have walked the village and recorded the water before, I have used my unstable nets and bags on the artists bodies other years and I have walked Provence as art with a yellow object. This year I shall combine some of the works, a Hegelian synthesis in praxis. I walk by the river from Correns to Barjols during some hours and pick some flowers. Its hot and intense. Very beautiful. I spend time in the studios, looking at the movements of hands and bodies at work. The whole group as artifact. The skin of the relational body. I observe the light on the old wooden doors in the village and make a second walk by the river, with the red bag. The vernissage is great, we remember the fallen ones with care, and sing with joy. We walk up the catle´s tower and enjoy the view and the company. Provence is a steady beat in our hearts.

This year’s Arteria also marks our first 10 years. For that reason the festival does not have a specific subject, it is simply a celebratory anniversary edition. We are celebrating the fact that, regardless of the hardships, we again focused on new artistic productions and media, that we can exhibit works from previous festival editions which remained in our collection, but more than anything we are celebrating together with the artists happily accepted our invitation, both those we have already worked with once or a few times and those we have been working with continually. Let us just say that this is a chance to look back at who we are and if we have accounted for our first decade well. Over the course of these nine years, Arteria, designed as a platform based on the examination of the role of contemporary art in society and a model of collaboration, exchange of knowledge and experiences between artists from different disciplines and areas, has hosted 128 authors. Thirty-one performances and 21 workshops were presented, and 57 (spatial) installations were displayed (with or without the authors’ presence), as well as 56 video works at different venues in the old town. Adding to that 15 music performances and, finally, a little over 500 works, paintings, drawings, photographs and objects, we have displayed a respectable number. But it is not only statistics that is on our side. All these years included time for exploration, creativity, activism, enthusiasm and joy, as well as doubts, frustrations, fatigue and even failures. But the important things has always been the environment in which we create, perform, communicate, keep and nurture our dear art. Although Arteria has been more inclined to a more open and flexible manifestation of visual arts, as well as to a process pointing to social, emotional and aesthetic qualities in the broadest possible context, we can safely single out its essential traits as positive values. These are, primarily, support to new artistic productions and innovative subject matters, followed by affirmation and dialogue between different generations of artists, international collaboration and systematic promotion of contemporary art among the local community and general audience and, last but not least, replenishing the museum holdings. We hope we have managed to drop in somewhat different stories inside the dense touristic narrative of our town, to add new venues to the existing as part of the exhibition experience, and to connect traces of history with the present time.
