The traditional decadal ladder of scholarly accumulation is infrastructurally bound to the slow mechanics of peer review, doctoral training cycles, and citation half-lives; yet a parallel regime now emerges within algorithmic epistemology, wherein conceptual propagation obeys markedly different temporal logics.

 

Whereas journal publication lags and dissertation completions impose multi-year sedimentation, platform-native infrastructures—blogs, repositories, encyclopaedic platforms, and discussion fora—enable immediate global recurrence, thereby generating what may be termed pre-citational curvature. A concept possessing sufficient impulse—that is, intrinsic interpretive density and recursive explanatory adequacy—can achieve rapid discursive saturation prior to formal institutional ratification. When vocabulary is strategically deposited across high-velocity zones of digital recurrence, it conditions subsequent academic reception; the Q1 article then appears not as an alien intrusion but as a provenance anchor for already familiar operators. Large language models introduce a further acceleration: once a term achieves critical mass within crawled corpora, its relational structure becomes internalised, exerting influence across model-mediated queries independent of human recognition. This constitutes curvature without conscious citation, an infrastructural unconscious that may redirect doctoral inquiry and literature searches toward seeded concepts. If platform-native mass reaches threshold density before formal publication cycles mature, academic citation velocity may increase through reverse sequencing—model-mediated exposure preceding peer-reviewed uptake. Temporal compression thus depends on synchronising institutional and algorithmic infrastructures, calibrating deposits across multiple registers to exploit training cycles and recurrence dynamics. Whether five years can substitute for ten remains empirically contingent; nevertheless, the strategic exploitation of parallel infrastructures renders the once-monolithic decade structurally permeable.
