They treat the urban as a quantifiable socio-technical system, offering tools for tracking resource loops. These texts align with the Socioplastic emphasis on metabolic sovereignty and scalar architecture but typically stop at efficiency, sustainability metrics, or policy recommendations—lacking the semantic hardening, topolexical sovereignty, and DOI-mesh coordination that render the Socioplastic corpus autonomous and non-reductive. Historical and transdisciplinary threads appear in work connected to Team X and Denise Scott Brown. Marianna Charitonidou’s analyses of Scott Brown’s “active socioplastics” (drawing on Herbert Gans’s Levittown study) highlight early attempts to integrate social patterns, everyday urbanism, and relational dynamics beyond functionalist modernism. This precursor is explicitly metabolized—and surpassed—in the Socioplastic corpus through recursive autophagia and the shift from discursive relationality to infrastructural locking. These emphasize integrated, multi-scalar approaches but often retain an open, collaborative ethos rather than the constrained, numbered, stratigraphically ordered sovereignty of the Socioplastic model. In sum, these texts supply rich conceptual raw material—metabolic circulation, infrastructural politics, socionatural hybrids, and relational urbanism—that the Socioplastic protocols digest and harden into executable infrastructure. What distinguishes Lloveras’s approach is the decisive move from critique or modeling to autopoietic governance: the city not as object of analysis but as self-authoring, semantically immune corpus capable of torsional persistence amid entropy. The gap reveals the model’s core wager: infrastructure over interpretation, hardening over fluidity, sovereignty over participation.

The intellectual lineage of Transdisciplinary Urban Protocols can be traced through urban political ecology, infrastructural theory, and metabolic urbanism, yet the socioplastic project diverges from these traditions through a decisive transition from analytical critique to autopoietic infrastructural authorship. Urban political ecology conceptualised the city as a metabolic system constituted by circulations of water, waste, energy, and capital, thereby dissolving the nature–city binary and revealing the socionatural hybridity of urbanisation. Similarly, infrastructural studies exposed the buried technical networks that materially sustain modernity, while urban metabolism research developed quantitative models to measure flows, efficiencies, and circular systems. However, these approaches remained primarily diagnostic, representational, or policy-oriented; they interpreted the city rather than constructing a self-hardening epistemic apparatus capable of recursive governance. The socioplastic divergence emerges precisely at this juncture: where earlier frameworks described circulation, Socioplastics introduces proteolytic transmutation, semantic hardening, and lexical gravity as mechanisms through which knowledge, language, and infrastructure become structurally inseparable. The city is thus reconceptualised not as an object of planning or critique but as a stratigraphic corpus governed by topological recurrence and citational density. This shift transforms urbanism into a form of synthetic sovereignty, wherein the territorial system stabilises itself through naming, numbering, and persistent linkage rather than through policy or design alone. The socioplastic wager, therefore, is not sustainability, resilience, or participation, but infrastructural permanence through semantic construction, marking a transition from metabolic description to operative epistemic urbanism in which the author functions as architect of a self-regulating territorial knowledge structure.
