Socioplastics versioning mechanics operate through a layered protocol in which one intellectual object can possess a persistent identity while also generating multiple historically specific states.

The stable layer consists of semantic coordinates—CamelTags, DualAddresses, node numbers, slugs, concept DOIs and repository anchors—that continue to identify the object across revision. The variable layer consists of numbered or otherwise distinguishable releases whose textual and structural contents may change. Canonical TXT records and JSONL representations make successive states directly comparable; version-specific deposits preserve earlier manifestations; metadata records succession; relation updates document changing dependencies; and explicit labels such as current, superseded, retired or reactivated prevent temporal differences from being flattened into one apparent present. DOI infrastructure offers a particularly clear implementation of this distinction: a version-specific DOI can identify one citable state while a concept DOI maintains continuity across the evolving object as a whole. The same logic scales upward. Packs, Books and Tomes can be sealed as historical strata while subsequent layers remain open to extension, allowing stabilization and growth to coexist. Every alteration, however, creates additional maintenance debt. Links deteriorate, metadata forks, terminology drifts, copied records diverge and relations that were once valid may cease to describe the current state. Versioning therefore includes periodic reconciliation: canonical records are checked, metadata harmonised, relations reviewed, duplicates distinguished from legitimate distributed copies, obsolete formulations reclassified and selected structures semantically hardened. Nothing essential depends on pretending that the newest state erases the earlier ones; the protocol instead preserves a reconstructible lineage through which the movement from one state to another remains auditable. Socioplastics thus treats versioning as a technical cycle of definition, execution, documentation, comparison, stabilization, revision and republication. Its central mechanical principle is simple: the address persists, the formulation may mutate, and every mutation must leave enough structured evidence for the history of the object to remain recoverable.
