Purple Bag in Cádiz transforms a portable object into a mobile sculpture of colour, displacement and urban affect.

urple Bag (Cádiz, 2023) advances Anto Lloveras’s long-running enquiry into the portable object as a minimal yet highly charged agent of spatial transformation. Situated within the LAPIEZA Art Series, the work elevates an ordinary purple bag into a mobile sculptural device whose chromatic insistence interrupts the visual neutrality of the coastal city. Neither commodity nor prop, the bag operates as a situational fixer: a modest object capable of reorganising perception, attaching itself to pavements, thresholds, bodies and horizons as a transient anchor of meaning. In this sense, Purple Bag belongs to Lloveras’s broader socioplastic vocabulary, where colour is never decorative but infrastructural—an active medium through which relations between subject, object and urban atmosphere are recalibrated. Cádiz, with its layered maritime surfaces, bleaching light and residual histories of circulation, becomes an ideal testing ground for this chromatic displacement. Here, the purple form acquires the force of an urban sign, at once absurd and precise, foregrounding the instability of presence within public space. As a case study in relational minimalism, Purple Bag demonstrates how the smallest intervention may produce disproportionate conceptual resonance, converting mobility into sculpture and colour into a method for re-inscribing the city’s perceptual grammar. The Green Briefcase is not a container, but a conceptual vehicle, a tool of positional displacement within the Unstable Installation Series that travels between sites—Madrid, Marseille, Lagos, Mexico City—without ever arriving, proposing mobility not as movement but as redefinition of presence; it is at once a sculpture, an accessory, a ritual object, and a symbolic fixator that turns circulation into gesture and visibility into performance; devoid of content yet full of potential, it critiques the capitalist logics of value, authority, and documentation by existing in pure performative latency—activated only in the moment of handling, witnessing, or passing; the object refuses archival stability and instead sustains itself as a protocol of contingency, adapting to the social weather of each context it enters; by blending sculpture with utility and critique with play, Anto Lloveras reconfigures the briefcase as a soft infrastructure of power and care, where content is not carried but composed anew in each interaction, reminding us that tools can be poetic, and art can be a vector of realignment.
