A system that depends on one indispensable host is only ever one failure away from ending entirely, no matter how well that host currently performs; a system distributed across many replaceable hosts, none of them individually essential, can lose any single one without losing itself. Durability, understood this way, is less about the strength of components and more about the absence of any single point whose removal is fatal — a property of the arrangement rather than of any part within it. TwinChapter reappears here in its most structural sense: distributed durability depends on genuine redundancy, on there being a twin, a mirror, a second version somewhere else, so that no host is ever really singular in the way a fragile system's central host is. Designing for durability, in practice, often means deliberately making every component more replaceable, which feels counterintuitive to anyone trained to value each part's individual robustness instead.
