The Red Bag project (2017–2022) by Anto Lloveras transforms a mundane object into a positional fixer, a mobile axis around which unstable geographies and social interactions revolve. Through repeated appearances across cities—Madrid, Lagos, Uddebo, Athens, Málaga—the bag functions as a performative artefact, both sculpture and situational marker, carried through everyday routines and embedded in public, private, and transitional spaces. Unlike static works of art, the Red Bag is always in use, collecting not only items but contextual residue: from colours and vegetables to symbolic weight. Each documented moment—whether a solitary stroll in a shadowed street or a silent presence at a café—extends the bag's socioplastic agency, marking territories with subtle interventions. Its recurring presence builds a narrative of itinerancy and affective memory, resonating with practices of dérive and site-responsive art. The bag’s bold chromatic identity becomes a visual constant amidst socio-spatial flux, while its trivial materiality challenges traditional hierarchies of monumental art. As Lloveras’ blog entries trace the bag’s journey through residencies, meetings, and encounters, the piece transcends objecthood to operate as unstable social sculpture (Lloveras, 2022). In an era of mobility, displacement, and fragmented relationality, Red Bag resists fixity, proposing a poetic method for reconfiguring presence through minimalist yet persistent action.
