A concept acquires force when it can travel without pretending to remain identical to itself. Translation, citation, classification, measurement and archival survival are not secondary episodes in the life of knowledge; they are the material operations through which knowledge becomes public, durable and actionable. Jakobson dismantles equivalence by showing that every translation reorganises signs within another code, while Benjamin makes this alteration the very condition of a work’s afterlife: what survives does so by entering a linguistic and historical relation that the original could not complete alone. Hall’s articulation extends the problem into politics, where unity is neither essential nor arbitrary but constructed through contingent connections capable of being made, maintained and broken. Together, these positions describe portability as composition rather than transport. A portable form is a relation condensed enough to move, yet open enough to be recomposed. Bergson’s critique of spatialised time indicates what is lost whenever duration is converted into stable units: movement becomes sequence, qualitative difference becomes measurable interval, and becoming is reorganised as a set of administrable states. Poincaré, however, shows why condensation remains indispensable.

Language under Pressure



Contemporary institutions accumulate information at unprecedented velocity, yet greater abundance does not necessarily produce greater intelligibility. ArchiveFatigue emerges when museums, computational datasets, policy repositories, or scientific records expand beyond the human and institutional capacity required to interpret, contextualise, and reactivate them. The resulting danger is not merely misinformation but epistemic foreclosure, because repeated vocabularies delimit what institutions can recognise, question, and imagine. Responsible knowledge systems must therefore prioritise reactivation over acquisition, preserve discarded alternatives, audit dominant terminology, and expose uncertainty rather than concealing it. A city can also spoil ideas. It does so when everything becomes transit without reading, circulation without friction, urbanity without thickness. A city excessively pacified, branded, monetized, or smoothed out no longer produces thought; it administers it. Excess speed, programmed noise, surface tourism, and constant surveillance turn urban experience into an illegible flow. What decays is not urban life itself, but its capacity to become perceptual structure. The city is seen, but no longer read.

An idea blossoms in the dense, walkable, contradictory, stratified city. A city where different eras press on the same pavement, where ruins converse with kiosks, where conflict has not been entirely erased. Athens, Naples, Mexico City, Marseille, Istanbul, Barcelona, Buenos Aires, São Paulo: cities where old stone and improvisation rub against one another. Such cities do not simply offer content to thought; they offer structure. They teach how different temporalities inhabit the same street. They remind us that ideas are not born in abstraction, but in the compression of lived conditions.

1. Ontology as Addressability - Existence within this system is no longer an intrinsic or philosophical quality; it is a technical function of registration. A concept or object only "exists" once it is assigned a persistent identifier (such as a DOI). This transforms the field of thought into a measurable topology where the primary value is position and findability rather than "meaning." 2. The Centrifugal Archive The archive is reimagined as an active centrifuge rather than a static repository. Instead of gathering dust, historical concepts are subjected to rotational torsion, where they are continuously spun back into the present to provide structural density. This creates a recursive temporality where early foundational nodes (the past) remain active components of the current operational matrix. 3. Metric Regime over Symbolic Authorship - The role of the "author" is replaced by that of the calibrator. Validation is not achieved through rhetorical persuasion or personal brand, but through relational intensity—how well a concept aligns and interacts with the ten axes of the system. Semantic Hardening: Concepts become "tectonic plates" that gain authority through the compressive stress of being cited and integrated. Protocol Governance: The system regulates its own growth through internal ratios and metrics, ensuring that expansion reinforces structural stability instead of causing collapse.
