Minimal choreographic protocols convert bodily movement into epistemic instrumentation, revealing relational fields through durational encounter and micro-variation.Within the theoretical architecture of Socioplastics, choreography operates not as an autonomous artistic discipline but as an infrastructural layer through which knowledge is experimentally produced. In Anto Lloveras’s Double Sided series with Mateo Feijoo, the body becomes an epistemic prosthesis, a calibrated instrument capable of registering spatial, affective, and relational pressures that elude discursive articulation.

Drawing from the austerity of Samuel Beckett’s late minimalism, the choreographic protocols reduce action to elementary gestures—walking, carrying, draping, pausing—performed in durational repetition. Yet unlike Beckett’s existential cycles of exhaustion, these reiterations generate difference through micro-variation, allowing relational tensions to surface within the field of encounter. This methodological reduction resonates with the legacy of Judson Dance Theater, particularly Yvonne Rainer’s rejection of spectacle and Steve Paxton’s exploration of ordinary movement, where choreography emerges from everyday gestures stripped of virtuosity. However, within the Socioplastic framework such gestures function strategically: they act as probes inserted into spatial and institutional contexts where the refusal to perform becomes itself a critical instrument. The body is thus treated as plastic matter akin to Erwin Wurm’s sculptural configurations, yet oriented toward affective sustainability rather than absurdity. Simultaneously, the practice intersects with Paul B. Preciado’s conception of the body as politically constructed, proposing choreographic protocols that temporarily reorganise regimes of bodily intelligibility. The resulting encounters extend Nicolas Bourriaud’s relational aesthetics into a metabolic register, where bodies, objects, and environments exchange affective intensities across time. Documentation through video platforms and distributed blog nodes does not merely record these gestures but prolongs their operational life, transforming ephemeral choreography into archival infrastructure. Ultimately, Lloveras’s work proposes a form of choreography without dance: a procedural language in which movement functions as methodological inquiry, enabling architecture, performance, and epistemology to converge within a distributed research organism.

Sculptural Minimalism

Double Sided conceived by Anto Lloveras and Mateo Feijoo in 2022, advances a singular proposition: that performance may be recalibrated as a two-sided living sculpture in which duality functions not as antagonism but as structural syntax. Operating through a rigorous two-channel simultaneity, each performer inhabits a parallel plane—on stage or in split-screen—where gestures are reiterated with fractional deviations, generating intensity through accumulation rather than crescendo. The aesthetic economy—standardised white shirts, quotidian objects such as the itinerant Yellow Bag, and a pared movement lexicon—cultivates a no-drama intensity that privileges sculptural presence over theatrical narrative. In Doble Cara 012 at Réplika Teatro (Madrid, 2023), the dual configuration materialised as a disciplined negotiation of proximity and distance: two bodies, visibly autonomous yet rhythmically entangled, produced a field of ordered asymmetry in which spectatorship became an act of comparative perception. Earlier iterations such as Doble Cara 007 — Escultura Escénica foregrounded the body as architectural matter, consolidating the project’s alignment with Socioplastics’ unstable social sculpture. Here, repetition operates as epistemic prosthesis; minimal variation becomes a method for stabilising relational volatility without collapsing difference. Ultimately, Double Sided reframes conceptual dance as a politics of sovereign coexistence, wherein parallelism replaces fusion and presence itself constitutes the event.

EL DORADO is a migratory object: a single golden emergency blanket passed from body to body, sculpted through contact, time, and shared space. Conceived in Madrid in 2013 by Anto Lloveras, this socioplastic gesture emerges at the intersection of affection, material minimalism, and performative encounter, resisting the monumentality typically associated with sculpture by embracing ephemerality and circulation as form (Lloveras, 2013). Each participant receives the same object—not a copy, but the original—which takes shape anew in relation to their posture, mood, presence, and the photograph that documents them. The object remains light (twenty grams), yet charged with the symbolic density of survival, intimacy, and collective imagination. Referencing and reversing the myth of El Dorado, here gold is not found but shared, not hidden but made visible, not extracted but offered—a temporary fold of care. The work features artists such as RafaFans, Maite Cajaraville, Monoperro, Paula Lloveras, María Enríquez, Juan Barte, Vic Snake, Giuseppe Zamora, and Hectruso, among others, each inscribed within the same sculptural loop. As part of HIPERVÍNCULOS, a broader network of relational exhibitions, EL DORADO functions not as an edition but as a living rhetorical device, where sculpture is displaced from the object into the gesture of shared proximity

AFFECTION IS FUEL

Lloveras, A. (2013) El Dorado – Escultura Socioplástica

HIPERVÍNCULOS – Relational States is an evolving curatorial platform initiated by Anto Lloveras, weaving together ephemeral actions, situated sculptures, and social encounters. Each work functions as a node in a living network of proximity, affection, and conceptual drift, where art emerges not as object but as relational state.

BLUE PANTS__________________________________________________________UNSTABLE INSTALLATION :________________ CADIZ NORWAY BERLIN CROATIA NEGRADAS 2014 2019______________________IDENTITY SCULPTURE SERIES

Blue Pants operates as a distilled vocabulary of embodied minimalism, using a simple, recurring element —bright blue trousers— to activate an evolving identity code across multiple geographies. The work unfolds between 2014 and 2019 through ephemeral performances and photographic documentation in sites ranging from urban interiors to natural deserts, establishing a mobile sculptural grammar. By placing the artist’s body consistently within varying contexts, always wearing the titular garment, the project becomes a modular exploration of presence, place and authorship. Without relying on textual explanation, the repetition of form and posture generates a symbolic infrastructure that is at once personal and transferable. In works like Dark Blue Pants II and Jungle Hardangen, the gesture is refined to a minimalist tableau: the outstretched arm, the standing body, the vibrant blue. These configurations subtly invoke traditions of conceptual art, land art, and performance, while inserting affective registers linked to displacement and self-representation. Here, clothing becomes object-sign, the body becomes sculpture, and the landscape becomes frame. Blue Pants functions as an open protocol —not a statement, but a presence— where the lack of verbal mediation enhances its visual authority and leaves interpretation in the hands of the viewer.
